Let's Do It Goa!

Over 10 000 tons of illegal waste lying around all over Estonia. One outrageous plan - to clean it all up on one day!

More than 600 volunteers were working to make it all happen with only 3 full-time employees. On May 3, 2008 with help of 50 000 volunteers more than 10 000 tons of garbage gathered and Estonia was cleaned up from illegal waste.
Perhaps this is something a small state like Goa could learn from!

Hi Gasper, Alisha and I were

Hi Gasper,

Alisha and I were talking of this a couple of weeks ago. This is very doable in Goa, however...

1. We have to first create proper waste management awareness throughout goa. People need to know why they should, and how they should.
2. Goan's need to have their waste management systems in place else the waste will reappear after the cleanup.
3. Once the first two steps have stabilised, the cleanup can be planned, but we would also require a site to move this waste to.
4. recycling and composting will reduce the waste, but there will always be some for landfilling. We need a landfill in place first.

Could tech replace landfill sites?

Clinton, your plan is spot on. First we need to understand why this is important. In the video too, it says people didn't understand why it was a problem to dump garbage in the forests.

As for the landfill site, if Goans will always be fighting about "not in our village" there will never be a permanent landfill site. The problem is we have go along without a site for too long. Now there are settlements everywhere. So where's the place?

I'm no expert, but perhaps technology can help? I mean, isn't there a newer way that replaces landfill sites?
