Six-year old Godfrey Fernandes of Calangute succumbed to dengue on Thursday, becoming the first victim in Goa.
Godfrey was first admitted to a private hospital in Mapusa with fever pain in the abdomen and vomiting. He was shifted to the GMC on Wednesday after a rapid test revealed he was suffering from dengue.
He died on Thursday at the GMC. The funeral cortege will leave his residence at Calangute for St Alex Church at 3.30pm on Friday.
Blood samples have been sent for further tests and the report is awaited.
There has been a 10 to 15% increase in dengue cases this year.
Dengue is transmitted by the bite of an Aedes mosquito infected with any one of the four dengue viruses. Widespread construction activities in Goa and Calangute in particular has seen an increase in mosquito breeding.
