Advantage "3 per cent" for Goa's sportspersons

Students representing their institutions in sporting events can now 3 per cent additional marks in their examinations. Besides 3 per cent seats in educational institutions and govt jobs and will be reserved for sportspersons.

The Sports Minister, Mr Manohar Azgaonkar said the Goa cabinet has approved the sports policy for the state, making Goa the first state in the country with a sports policy.

Implementation of this policy is expected to help the state which will be hosting the 36th National Games in 2011.

The aims of the policy are to encourage participation in sports.

The government has envisaged creating awareness and consciousness of physical education and sports at primary and pre-primary school level and broad-basing the promotion and development of physical education and sports activities through schools, village panchayats, sports clubs, etc for development of a healthy and competitive personality and achieving excellence at all levels.
