Andhra couple drown off Miramar beach

A middle-aged tourist couple from Hyderabad in Andhra Pradesh drowned in the sea along the Miramar beach on Monday morning. Three other members of the family were rescued by the locals.

The deceased were identified as Bulusu Srinivasa Kameshwara Sharma, 45 and his wife, Bulusu Jotsna, 38.

The family, residing at the Miramar Residency went for a morning walk along the beach when the couple entered the water. While strong undercurrents pulled Mr Sharma in, his wife and three other family members tried to rescue him.

Locals pulled all five persons out of the water. However, the couple died on the way to the hospital.

Need for better beach patrolling and life guards

Drowning on Goa Beaches has now been so common and frequent these days. The government had promised to set up professional life guards and 24/7 beach patrolling but it seems promises are meant to be broken. There is no coastal security in Goa and the alarm bells are ringing in the wake of the recent terrorist attack on Mumbai where they had used the sea route for their mission. When are we going to see beach patrolling and improved coastal security because only police postings at some beaches is not going to solve any issues.
