Centre to resolve MPT - State disputes over land

The Centre on Tuesday said that it would constitute a committee to resolve the dispute between government of Goa and Mormugao Port Trust (MPT).

This information was given by the Union Shipping Minister, Mr G K Vasan in reply to a question by Mr Shantaram Naik in the Rajya Sabha.

He said that MPT has agreed to contribute towards rehabilitation of people affected due to construction of the four-lane road and also to bear the cost towards shifting of existing utilities on the land falling along the alignment of the proposed road.

MPT paid an amount of Rs 4.55 crore to the government of Goa on April 30, 2001. With these funds, the state government acquired land measuring 23,553 sq mt at Adarshnagar, Vasco for the purpose of rehabilitating affected people.
