The swine flu claimed its first victim from Goa when a woman from Canacona succumed to the H1N1 virus.
The woman was struggling for life for some 15 days at a private hospital in Margao, after being brought there from a Chinchinim hospital with pneumonia like symptoms.
She was only diagnosed to be H1N1 positive later and then kept under observation.
The woman who had been on a ventilator for past few days was said not to have traveled outside the state in all probability, but had probably acquired the disease in the state itself from some already afflicted person.
The state had already seen two deaths since the outbreak of the pandemic, both men were brought from Karnataka to the Goa Medical College and Hospital at Bambolim, but this was the first indigenous case.

Frist swine flu death from Nuem, Salcete
This is really very tragic as the woman who died from H1N1 was from a small village of Nuem. The Goa govt. should do everything possible to set up medical assistance and infrastructure to stem the spreading of the viral disease any further. Also, the govt. should investigate in this death of this woman because its the first indigenious case and what's scaring is that it has been reported from a small coastal village of Nuem.
