Goa school closed for one week over swine flu

Health authorities in Goa on Thursday directed the closure of city-based People’s High School for one week till September 30, following two confirmed and three suspected cases of H1N1 among its students.

The two confirmed cases were detected last week and both children have since recovered. Of the three suspected cases, one has recovered while the other two are placed under home quarantine.

It is reported the two confirmed cases may have contracted the virus on their trip to Pune during the Ganesh holidays.

While screaming headlines of the school closure may appear drastic, authorities say this is as per the central government guidelines and there is no need for alarm.
