Goa's Parrikar emerging as default choice for BJP

Goa's Manohar Parrikar is fast emerging as the front runner for the top post of president of the BJP in India once current incumbent Rajnath Singh's term ends in December.

According to reports, three names came up at the Sangh meeting. These were, Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh, Gujarat CM, Narendra Modi and Manohar Parrikar, former CM of Goa.

While Narendra Modi would be the first choice based on the hardline Hindutva ideology of the BJP, there were doubts about Modi's ability to pull the various factions in the BJP together in this time of crisis for the party.

Shivraj Singh, it is reported, is not too keen to leave his seat of power as second term chief minister of MP.

The hand therefore points towards Parrikar, almost as the default choice before the party.

Parrikar is currently away in the US on a personal visit.
