Govt begins agricultural land survey, 21 years late

The Goa government commenced the crop survey in the state, after almost 21years, even though it was mandatory yearly as per the rule, to know ‘the actual position’ of the state’s agricultural land.

The survey gives the government an idea of the number of cultivators in the state as well as the area of fallow land. By not conducting the exercise since 1988, many tenants and farmers were denied rights of cultivators and hence could not avail schemes introduced by the govt.

Mr Mihir Vardhan, the north Goa district collector said, "At least I have commenced it. I was trying to do it since I took over, (as the north Goa collector) because, as per the rule, it (crop survey) has to be made every year to know the detail position of the agricultural activities."
