Residents of the farming village of Nagargao unanimously opposed the proposed mining activity at Dhavem that threatens their livlihoods and the Mhadei river.

Villagers of Nagargao panchayat in Sattari taluka unanimously passed a resolution in the Gram Sabha held on Sunday to oppose the proposed mining activity at Dhavem. 

The farmers and horticulturists from Nagargao assembled in the panchayat premises to express their opposition to the mining lease T.C. No 1/58 within an area of 100 ha. 

According to Vallabh Kelkar, a teacher and resident of the area, "It is the need of the hour for the Goa assembly to discuss the issue and pass a resolution for cancellation of the leases which are also posing a threat to the Mhadei river".
