Ten days after the Margao bomb blast, no arrests have been made and no discernable action is being taken, either by the police or on the political front. The perpetrators and accomplices, besides the two dead, are as yet unknown. This has led to an increase in the sense of insecurity in the still shaken people of the state.

With politicians across the board seeking political mileage from the recent blast in Margao on the eve of Diwali, Freddy Agnelo Fernandes wonders if the honchos in power are happy to maintain status quo, so they win whichever way the wind blows.

A bomb threat delayed the train from Okha to Ernakulam for two hours at the Margoa railway station today. But, a thorough search proved that it was a false alarm. 

The Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh on Saturday chaired a high-level national security meeting to discuss the situation arising out of intelligence alerts over possible terror threats via sea to Maharashtra and Goa.

The Goa Police received intelligence inputs late Thursday night from their counterparts in Sindhudurg in neighbouring Maharashtra, alerting them to a "suspiciously moving ship" off the coast. The Indian Navy and the Coast Guard have intensified their patrolling off Konkan coast.

"We were informed by Goa police about such movement of the ship. But we are still verifying the reports," Captain Manohar Nambiar, public relation officer, Indian Navy, told PTI today.
