August 30 transport strike questioned in court

The Goa Chief Minister may have taken the stand that no action will be taken against transporters who went on strike on August 30. But a writ petition challenging the legality of such strikes has been filed before High Court.

The transport strike call for September 25 was withdrawn after Chief Minister Mr Digamber Kamat announced that no one would be forced to affix the HSRPs till the Srivastava-headed committee gives its final report.

Dhavalikar softens stand on HSRPs, admits lapses

Goa transport minister, Ramkrishna Dhavalikar softened his stand on the implementation of the high security registration plates (HSRP) saying it would be implemented but he would "go slow" on the issue.

He  said, “HSRP implementation cannot be avoided. But we will go slow on this. We had earlier hurried it.”

Security so slim!

When the larger part of 12,000 registered commercial buses go off the road on the first day of the week, the situation cannot be less than chaotic.

The Transport minister may happily claim that only 2,500 of these buses were off the roads. His claim would have been hardly reassuring to all those thousands of anxious commuters.
