Issues such as the environment and democracy concern us all. Today we face issues on a global scale. Every other day newspapers tell us of the imminent environmental problems.

A function was organised at St Francis Xavier's School Auditorium on October 14, 2009, which was addressed by India's top fashion designer and chairman of Green Goa Works, Wendell Rodricks, Clinton Vaz (environmental consultant), Seby Rodrigues (mining activist) and others.

The interactive session was preceded by an entertaining cultural programme with "village environment" as the theme. 

The event was a part of the nascent Club's ongoing initiative to safeguard Siolim's environment and heritage. 

All 14 municipalities in Goa have been given a six month deadline to ready their own landfill sites. The govt has also decided to keep on hold its plans to set up a waste treatment plant at Bainguinim, Old Goa.

The government will take up a central mechanised scheme for solid waste management by municipalities in the state. Under the scheme, some expert group would advise all the municipalities as to how they should proceed with the task of solid waste management, stated Chief Minister Mr Digambar Kamat.

A bill to set up the Goa Solid Waste Management Corporation was introduced in the assembly on Tuesday amidst objections from the opposition and treasury benches. The bill seeks to address the problem of waste disposal at village panchayat level  in a systematic manner.
